Greetings from the Baron and Baroness of Storvik
Welcome to the Barony of Storvik! We, Rorik and Janina, would like to give you a general introduction to our Barony and the SCA.
First, who are we: we are a local chapter of a much larger regional not for profit, educational organization called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), whose main focus is the study and recreation of Pre-1600 medieval life.
Second, where we are: Within the SCA, the Barony of Storvik is a Territorial Barony in the Kingdom of Atlantia which itself is but one of the Eighteen Kingdoms that make up what we refer to as the Knowne World. The Barony physically encompasses the territories of the District of Columbia, and most of Prince Georges County and a small part of Montgomery County in Maryland. The Kingdom of Atlantia encompasses the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and a small part of northern Georgia.
Thirdly, what do we do: we and other regional groups within the region <Atlantia> hold events throughout the year. These events can consist of activities such as martial competitions, Arts and Science displays and competitions, feasting, and period music, singing and dancing. To this end we promote the study and recreation of various aspects of the Middle Ages. The members of the SCA are experienced in cooking, making cloth and clothing, period styles of fighting from heavy weapons like sword and shield, rapier and archery (both combat and target). We also study period heraldry, illumination and calligraphy, dancing, and music in all its forms. In short, there is almost nothing about the Middle Ages that in which we don't dabble, short of the Black Plague.
How can you become involved: Newcomers to this area can contact our Chatelaine, at chatelaine<at>storvik.atlantia.sca.org. Our Chatelaine is the person whose job it is to make sure newcomers like yourself know how to get around in the Barony. She also maintains a closet full of clothing to loan out to you for an event or two until you have had a chance to make your own first set of basic garb.
If you have further questions or concerns contact our Seneschal:
Lady Orla Carey (Beth Nelson)
9006 Simpson Ln, Clinton MD 20735
(703) 919-6360
(note: I do not answer numbers I don't recognize so leave a message and I'll call back)

She is the legal representative to the SCA Corporation. We all are here to make sure the populace (you) have as much fun in the Storvik as possible. We have other officials who handle other activities in the Barony. Their names and phone numbers can be found elsewhere at this site.
In closing, we look forward to making your acquaintance, and we hope to see you soon at a Storvik event.
Until that time we remain in service to Storvik and Atlantia,
Baron Rorik
Baroness Janina
